It’s all about the trees…and their friends…

Trees, together with their interwoven community of species, exemplify sustainability, harmony, interdependence. They inform conversations about environmental imperatives, including the need for a global paradigm shift from “throughput” models of perpetual acquisition and planned obsolescence to systemic interconnectivity and mutual benefit. In short, people should listen to the trees,

Part of a tree’s life story is revealed on the lathe as a piece takes shape. Once the wood is smoothed and brought to a sheen, one feels compelled to hold it, to feel the texture, to study the whorls and rings, and inclusions, to wonder how and where it grew. As admirers and makers, we become part of the story, and give the tree’s tale new chapters.

I intend, with my craft – creating functional and beautiful items on the lathe – to bring awareness to the natural history, wealth and health of my local woodlands here in California’s Sierra Nevada, to invite discussion, and to engage others in “living lightly” on the Earth, for the benefit of all its inhabitants.
